Kingsburg boys basketball back on winning track

What a difference a week makes.

After starting Central Sequoia League play with a pair of losses two weeks ago, the Kingsburg boys basketball team rebounded with wins over Exeter and Coalinga last week to even their CSL record at 2-2.

Vikings coach Vince Scheidt praised his team after last Thursday's 56-53 victory at Coalinga.

"We played really well," Scheidt said. "Especially defensively against their guards."

Kingsburg led by 12 points after three quarters, but Coalinga got back into the game with a barrage of three-point baskets.
The Vikings trailed by a point when Austin Bray scored the go-ahead field goal with 17 seconds left. Coalinga's attempt at a game-winner missed with 1.8 seconds left.

Bray then converted an offensive rebound off a free throw for the final margin.

Zach Bethel led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Bray, Dirk Schuil and Trevor Price each scored 10 and Kevin Hurtado scored eight.

Tuesday, Kingsburg rebounded from losses to Dinuba and Immanuel with a 61-40 victory over Exeter.

"That was our best defensive game as a team," Scheidt said. "We rebounded really well, shot better and cut down on turnovers."

Price led with 15 points, Bray scored 13, Schuil and Parker Coelho had seven points each and Bethel scored six.

Scheidt is confident about the rest of the season. "The last two games are the first time we have been at full strength," he said, noting that Price and Hurtado had not played together until last week.

Kingsburg hosted Central Valley Christian this Tuesday and will host Selma next Tuesday.
