Santa Lucia celebration Dec. 6 in Kingsburg

There are still spaces open for craft vendors at the Santa Lucia Celebration in Kingsburg on Dec. 6.

Gingerbread houses, girls in white gowns with red sashes and crowns of candles herald the Christmas holiday season for Kingsburg and its Swedish traditions for the event.

The celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Draper Street sidewalks in the Kingsburg Swedish Village downtown.

The day begins in the restaurants serving breakfast with Swedish pancakes and the traditional Lucia procession. Throughout the day events will continue with an arts and crafts exhibit downtown, a chicken luncheon sponsored by the Kingsburg Cancer Volunteers, the Seventh Annual Gingerbread House Contest and the Festival of Lights Parade preceded by the reading of the Lucia story and singing of the Lucia song in Swedish as the Lucia procession heads the parade.

Every entry in the parade is lighted with Christmas lights.
Entry forms for the arts and crafts exhibit, gingerbread house contest and for the parade are available at the sponsoring Kingsburg District Chamber of Commerce, 1475 Draper St.

Details: 897-1111.

Chicken meal

Kingsburg Cancer Volunteers sponsor a chicken meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 6. at the Kingsburg Community Church, at the corner of Smith and Ellis streets, during the Santa Lucia activities. The meal includes barbecue chicken, pilaf, green salad and dinner roll. Meals are available for take-out or dine-in eating. Homemade desserts are also available.

There will be a drawing for a homemade afghan from the meal purchasers.

The group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 8 a.m. at Kady's Kitchen. New members are welcome at meetings.
