For seven years, The Rock'n '50s Shop on Draper Street was 1950s enthusiast Evelyn Kidd's hobby turned business.
And now it's closing.
Kidd is moving the business to Tulare, where she lives, but is keeping her original motivation for starting her business in tact.
"My husband and I are products of the fabulous '50s," Kidd wrote on her shop's Web site. "He collects old cars and I collect memorabilia."
The shop specialized in brand-name apparel, accessories, household items and gifts.
Betty Boop, I love Lucy, Coca Cola, James Dean, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe were a few of the most popular names and brands carried.
"We have over 200 categories of a few thousand products ranging from retro furniture to jukeboxes to key chains and magnets," Kidd said about her inventory.
The store also has an online forum, which Kidd is going to keep up and running even after she closes.
"I am always looking for new and unique products," Kidd added about her Web site. "We have collected hundreds of affordable projects for all of you '50s enthusiasts!"
The Web site,
https://www.rockn50s.com, hasn't been updated to alert customers of the Kingburg's store closing yet, but the last day of business will be Aug. 13.
But Kidd made it clear that her catalog would continue to offer a selection of 1950s items.
"I am always looking for new and unique products, so make sure you check the Web site regularly," Kidd wrote. "You name it and we probably have it or can get it."
Kingsburg Chamber of Commerce Director Jess Chambers said that Kidd has been a valued member of the business community.
"We're going to miss her but are obviously wish her the best," he said.
In a letter to the editor, she expressed that her reason for closing her shop, ultimately was due to family illness. But she encouraged her customers to stop by if ever in the Tulare area.
"Please stop by the shop and get all the information on the future of the Rock'n '50s," Kidd said. "I would love to share that with all of you... . It has been a pleasure doing business in Kingsburg."
